Why I Wrote How to Keep a Man

People often smile or raise an eyebrow the first time they hear the title How to Keep a Man.
Some assume it’s a book about convincing a man to stay, competing with other women, or
teaching women to sacrifice themselves to preserve a relationship.

It isn’t.

In fact, it was written for almost the opposite reason.
Over the years, I noticed a painful pattern. I saw many intelligent, kind, and genuinely good
women pour everything they had into relationships, believing that physical beauty, attraction, or
simply loving harder would be enough to sustain commitment. When relationships failed, many
blamed themselves. They wondered if they weren’t attractive enough, exciting enough, or simply
“enough”

At the same time, I also observed something else.

Not every relationship ended because a man was irresponsible or unwilling to commit. Sometimes, two good people simply misunderstood one another. Emotional needs went unnoticed. Communication broke down. Expectations were never expressed. What could have become a healthy relationship slowly drifted apart not because love was absent, but because understanding was.

That realization stayed with me.

I began asking difficult questions.

What if many women have never been taught the qualities that sustain a healthy relationship after the excitement of attraction fades?

What if we’ve spent so much time talking about finding love that we’ve neglected to talk about nurturing it?

And what if helping women understand these deeper principles could save relationships that are worth saving while also helping them recognize relationships that are not?

That became the inspiration for this book.

The title, How to Keep a Man, is intentionally bold because it speaks to a question many women quietly ask themselves. But the answer inside these pages may not be what you expect.

This book is not about chasing a man.

It is not about manipulating him.

It is not about tolerating disrespect, emotional neglect, infidelity, abuse, or remaining in relationships that rob you of your peace and dignity.

A man who has no desire to love you well cannot be persuaded into becoming the partner you deserve simply because you read a book.

Instead, this book is about understanding the qualities that help healthy relationships flourish when both people are willing to invest in them.

It is about emotional connection rather than appearances.

Character rather than charm.

Mutual respect rather than control.

Wisdom rather than desperation.

Above all, it is about protecting women.

Protecting women from believing they must carry a relationship alone.

Protecting women from confusing endurance with love.

Protecting women from measuring their worth by whether someone chooses to stay.

And protecting women from overlooking the kind of emotional maturity that creates lasting, healthy relationships.

My hope is that every woman who reads this book walks away with greater clarity—not only about relationships, but about herself.

Because the strongest relationships are never built on beauty alone.

They are built on understanding.

On character.

On trust.

On mutual commitment.

And on two people who choose each other, every single day.

If this book helps even one woman avoid unnecessary heartbreak, strengthen a healthy relationship, or recognize her own worth before settling for less, then writing it will have been worthwhile.

That is why this book exists.
